Artist Statement
The image of an eagle feather casting its shadow conveys the spirit behind Wingshadow Studios and symbolizes that beauty from the sky, the earth, or even a piece of paper finds a way into the soul through art.
I have lived around artists and students enough to know that even if inspiration falls from heaven, art is the result of putting certain forces to work in ourselves. I believe an artist has to accept the task of communicating emotional content as an exaltation of life. Art lives with the life invested in it.
Art has pulled me through the pain from a serious car accident and breast cancer, and eventually out of it. I am working to express the universal power artistic creativity has to reveal and to heal, to replenish and to restore.
I am a teacher, painter, printmaker, and weaver working in a wonderful new studio in La Conner, WA. Creating a sketchbook and teaching workshops has made it possible to help others to claim their personal creativity.
My finished work is not as important as the process of making it which continues to increase my own awareness and give form to the story of my life.
